Iaido and Jodo Grading Policy
The following requirements apply to all BKA Iaido and Jodo gradings from September 2012. They are intended to provide clarity to members, streamline administration and ensure fair treatment of all grading candidates.
All applications must now be made using the BKA online system. Applications will no longer be accepted by email or post. Dojo leaders are asked to arrange appropriate support for members who may not have online access, or ask them to email the grading officer for assistance.
All grading applications must be received at least two weeks prior to the grading. The online application system will close on this date and no further applications will be accepted.
Completed answers to grading questions must also be received two weeks prior to the grading. Candidates who submit answers after this deadline will not be allowed to grade and the grading application fee will not be refunded.
Please do not:
Send copies of menjo as proof of eligibility by email or post
Send copies of online grading registration as proof of registration by email or post
Send a duplicate of grading question answers by post
Candidates who have applied for a grading but subsequently find that they are unable to attend will be allowed to defer their application, provided that the grading officer is notified at least 24 hours prior to the grading and a legitimate explanation is offered (i.e. illness, injury or unforeseen family or work commitments). The application may be deferred once only to any UK grading within the following 12 months. The candidate should inform the grading officer by email at least two weeks prior to the selected grading – please do not submit a further online application. No refund of the application fee will be given if a candidate cannot attend a grading and does not wish to defer.
Dojo leaders are asked to make sure that all members intending to grade are aware of these requirements.
